Round 1 & 2 Registration is Open
Hey NW Cuppers.
At long last, we have registration open for the first two races of the 2023 season. We are excited to get things rolling and see all of you very soon!
Trail Report
As always, the circus will get under way at the birthplace of the NW Cup, Dry Hill in “always sunny” Port Angeles. There’s been a lot of digging going on between snow days this winter. There have been improvements throughout the trail system, and a couple all new trails.
So what’s new?
We have an all new upper section parallel to Muffin Top called Mini-muffins. This is a machine built flow trail intended for Cat 3 racing and fun for everyone.
There is a nearly all new Pro/Cat 1 track from top to bottom. It has everything from buffed-out machine built sections to multi-line totally raw sections. A couple big airs, a few stompin’ berms, and some STEEP of camber bits that should result in a track worthy of the Underworld Cup.
Several existing trails have received major facelifts and little updates that will surely be noticed.
Licensing Update
The NW Cups are USA Cycling sanctioned events. As such, all riders MUST have some form of USAC license to participate. See below for some updates by category to the license policy from USA Cycling.
-Category 3: Riders can either purchase a one-day license through Bikereg while registering for $15 OR purchase an annual license directly from USAC. The cost varies by age of participant
-Category 2 (NEW): Riders can purchase an “Experienced One-Day License” (that’s the new part) through Bikereg while registering for $35 OR purchase an annual license directly from USAC. The cost varies by age of participant.
-Category 1 (NEW): Riders must have a valid Category 1 license. Riders can purchase an “Experienced One-Day License” (that’s the new part) through Bikereg while registering for $35 OR purchase an annual license directly from USAC.
-Pro: No change to the pro category. ALL riders must have an annual PRO license purchased through USA Cycling.
***ALL ANNUAL LICENSES MUST BE PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM USA CYCLING***
Note: This is probably obvious, but just to be clear. When you get an annual license, it must be renewed every year to be valid. When checking in at the race, riders MUST show proof of a valid, current license. Without a valid license, racers may be moved to a different category. Evading this requirement puts us under extreme liability risk and we’d appreciate this not being an issue.
With that, let the race begin. Both the first two events have entry caps. Early season races are a usually a bit more popular than our permit allows, so don’t delay.
